Aboveground Drilling 


The Aboveground Drilling course introduces trainees to the unique working environment of aboveground drilling by providing classroom instruction along with intensive, performance-based, hands-on training. The care and use of tools and equipment are presented, as well as drilling techniques. Basic information about rocks and their composition and characteristics are introduced.

Asphalt Worker

The Asphalt Worker course provides hands-on training in the placement, spreading, raking, and compaction of asphalt materials. Also covered are safety issues when working with asphalt, such as burns, fumes and chemicals, and heat stress. Trainees are introduced to the properties, uses, and mix designs of asphalt and the equipment and tools used in paving operations. Placing methods are discussed in detail, as well as repair and patching, and cleanup and maintenance.

Basic Construction Plan Reading 1

The Basic Construction Plan Reading course is specifically designed for trainees who want to develop their plan reading skills. This course is taken in a structured classroom environment.

Boom & Scissor Lift Training

The Boom & Scissor Lift Training course will cover the standard operating procedures for the safe and proper use of boom & scissor lifts. Topics include workplace inspection, manufacturers operator manual, pre-start inspection, fall protection requirements,  safety procedures and hands-on training for the proper use of boom & scissor lifts.

Cutting & Burning

The information covered in this introductory course will explain the proper way to safely set up and use welding and cutting equipment / systems. Topics covered in this class are: Subpart J 1926.350 (Gas Welding and Cutting) in the OSHA manual, Burning and Welding Safety, Fire Prevention, Welding Health Hazards and Personal Protective Equipment. A majority of this class is hands-on training.

Chainsaw / Site Clearing

Because of its many uses, the chain saw is important to the Construction Craft Laborer. In this course the trainee will learn how to operate a chain saw safely, chain saw maintenance, and chain saw personal protective equipment.  Also discussed are the different kinds of cuts and the felling and limbing of trees.

Concrete Power Buggy

The Concrete Power Buggy course will show trainees the procedures for the safe operation of the concrete buggy on a construction site. Trainees must be able to recognize the hazards related to the power buggy and how to overcome these hazards. Also, trainees must be able to operate the concrete power buggy in a safe and productive manner.

Concrete Worker

The Concrete program prepares the trainee to work in this potentially hazardous field. Safety issues are covered in depth as well as other job safety concerns such as trenching, formwork, and construction safety awareness. Through instructor-led and hands-on training, the student becomes familiar with construction math and measurements, project planning, and site preparation. Other topics important to a concrete worker, such as forming, placing, finishing, and sawing are covered in detail. All aspects of concrete work including footings, walls, flatwork, curbs and sidewalks will be discussed. Appropriate cleanup and repair are also discussed. Hands-on training is a must.

Concrete Flatwork – ACI Certification

ACI  (Atlantic Concrete Institute) certification program for flatwork finisher/technician is a craftsman who has demonstrated the ability to place, consolidate, finish, edge, joint, cure and protect concrete flatwork. To qualify for this certification program, you must obtain a passing grade on the written examination, and either A) possess 1-year (1500 hours) of approved work experience and successfully complete the ACI performance examination or B) possess 3 years (4500hours) of approved work experience and successfully complete the Alternative Performance Affidavit (Form D16). The work experience must include placing, consolidation, finishing, edging, jointing, curing, and protection of concrete flatwork. Verification of the amount and range of work experience by the applicants employer is required.

Concrete Stamping

Concrete Stamping (Decorative Concrete) is an attractive and economical alternative to natural paving materials or plain poured concrete. Stamped concrete is commonly referred to as patterned concrete or imprinted concrete, it is designed to resemble brick, slate, flagstone, stone, tile, and even wood. In this class, participants should have a good understanding of the process of grading, forming, pouring  and  placement of concrete. Participants will learn tips and techniques for proper concrete stamping. Topics covered are: Pattern and color options, cost considerations, uses for stamped concrete, Installing and maintaining stamped concrete, and much more.

“Pervious” Concrete

Pervious Concrete will contain about 15-25% void space within the concrete. Many of the void spaces within the pervious concrete will be interconnected, forming channels that allow water and air to pass freely through the pavement structure. Pervious concrete has been used in construction for more than 100 years. Today, in the United States, it is being used primarily as a pavement material for parking areas. A major portion of the interest in pervious concrete is being driven by the benefits it provides in storm water management and sustainable development, Topics discussed in this class are: The use of pervious concrete, Mixtures and production, Tools and equipment, General design principles, Pre-construction planning and placement and finishing.

Confined Space Awareness

The Confined Space Awareness course will help you with the recognition of a confined space and the hazards associated with them. The course will also discuss the importance of a permit required confined space, understanding the duties of the entrant, attendant and the supervisor. This course will also discuss safe work practices such as air monitoring, permit required confined space, proper ventilation, proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and all procedures necessary for a safe entry.

Permit Required Confined Space

The Permit Required Confined Space focuses on the identification of the different types of confined spaces as well as their associated hazards.  Participants receive detailed instruction on rules, regulations, and procedures to be followed when entering a confined space as well as methods to imitate the associated hazards.

Construction Math

This class introduces the Construction Craft Laborer to the basic math skills needed to perform calculations related to distance, area, volume, angles, weight and measurement on construction projects. Participants are provided instruction and opportunity to measure objects, calculate and perform basis math functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole and fractional numbers; measure and estimate volumes, convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions. In addition, participants learn formulas for calculating perimeters, area, volume, and the use and function of square roots.

 Craft Orientation

The Craft Orientation course introduces new members, trainees, and/or apprentices to the construction industry and prepares those seeking a career as a Construction Craft Laborer. Emphasis is placed on developing good work habits, being productive on the job, working under a collective bargaining agreement, being aware of growth areas in construction employment, and background information on the Laborers International Union of North America and its related funds.

 DEC Erosion Control Training

The purpose of this course is to provide minimum standards and specifications for meeting criteria set forth by the New York State Department of Conservation (NYS DEC) for storm water discharges associated with construction activity. The standards and specifications provide criteria on minimizing erosion and sediment impacts from construction activity involving soil disturbance. They show how to use soil, water, plants, and products to protect the quality of our environment. Proper use of these standards will protect the waters of the state from sediment loads during runoff events.

Defensive Driving

This course is meant to refresh your driving knowledge. The main messages covered in this course are:  To understand how attitudes affect your driving, To recognize and evaluate current driving patterns and know how to change them, To better understand the use of economical and safe driving techniques, To understand the responsibility of being behind the wheel, and to increase driver awareness. Upon completion of this course, individuals will be eligible for a 10% discount on their auto insurance and up to 4 points off your license.

Excavation (Competent Person)

The OSHA excavation safety regulations, “Construction Standards for Excavations,” have enormous impact on the construction industry. These regulations require a “competent person” at the excavation site who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards and who has the authority to take prompt and corrective measures to eliminate the hazards.

Fall Protection

In order to maintain a safe and productive work environment, it is essential that all employees working at heights are properly trained. In this course trainees will be instructed on the recognition of fall hazards, evaluation of the risk posed by each hazard, and the controlling of the hazard through preventative or protective measures. Also, trainees will learn about OSHA regulations (subpart M of the OSHA standards). Remember, all employees are entitled to fall protection from their employer.

Fire Safety / Fire Watch

The fire safety / fire watch course teaches the basic principles a fire watch worker must know to work safely around different kinds of fire.  Some of the topics covered are: types of fire, types of extinguishers, and types of watches.

First Aid and CPR

This course is designed for safety personnel, supervisors, individuals requiring certification and the general public. This course teaches how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants; identifying and caring for bleeding, sudden illness and injury and preventing disease transmission.  The CPR certification is valid for 2 years and the First Aid certification is valid for 3 years.

Forklift Certification

29 CFR 1926 OSHA regulations state that operators of powered industrial trucks, such as forklifts, must be properly trained in the safety and operation of that equipment. In this course trainees will be instructed in operating techniques, safety, and maintenance. Some other items covered in this course are: You (the operator), center of gravity, stability area, load limits, characteristics of a forklift, job site conditions, proper balance of loads, traveling with loads, and inspection and maintenance. This course stresses the operators common sense and awareness of the conditions which exist.

Foreman Preparedness Class

This course provides a prospective foreman with leadership techniques utilized in the construction industry. It consists of instruction on communication techniques, construction math, job safety and hazard analysis, project organization and documentation, problem solving and human relations.

General Construction

The General Construction Program introduces participants to a wide variety of concepts, tools, and skills that are important to successfully begin a career as a Construction Craft Laborer (CCL). Participants receive instruction on the work and role of a CCL, commonly encountered safety issues, measurement in construction, safe hand and power tool operation, and materials frequently used in construction. Each topic is presented in a separate module, several of which require students to perform tasks or demonstrate skills being taught. Special emphasis is placed on following proper procedures and developing safe work habits.

GPS (Global Positioning System) Training

The main message in this course is to give trainees exposure to Global Positioning Systems. It will teach trainees the basic skill set and experience necessary to operate it competently. The instructor will work closely with the students to be able to assess their ability to operate the equipment on a comfortable level. Schedule of activities include: Classroom instruction and interaction. There will also be demonstrative exercises to show the students competency. Outside hands-on training is a big part of this course.

 Global Harmonized System  (GHS)

Global Harmonized System is an international approach to Hazard Communication, providing criteria for classification of chemical hazards and a standardized approach to labels and safety data sheets.  GHS provides harmonized classification for health, physical and environmental hazards of chemicals.  It also provides standardized hazard classes, categories, signal words, pictograms and hazard and pre-cautionary statements.  The Modified Hazard Communication Standards, which includes GHS, will be a 4 hour course.  For individuals that have taken the Hazard Communication class will need a 2 hour class to be up to date with the modifications.  OSHA requires that all employees be trained on the new label elements and safety data sheets format by December 1, 2013.

Hazard Communication

The Hazard Communication course introduces trainees to OSHA’s Hazard Communication standard, as it applies to the construction industry. Trainees learn the guidelines for recognizing and protecting themselves from exposures to hazardous chemicals, including identifying chemical hazards and the proper use of container labels, placards, and material safety data sheets.

Highway Work Zone Safety

The Highway Work Zone Safety training provides workers with an understanding of the hazards and operations associated with highway construction and maintenance projects. The 4 sections discussed in detail in this course are :  Flagging, Traffic Control, Environmental Hazards and Work Zone Safety.

Hilti Powder Tools & Diamond Core Drilling

This course discusses the requirements for design, construction, operation, service and storage of Hilti powder actuated fastening tools, fasteners, and powder loads. Upon successful completion of this class each participant shall receive a qualified operators card, issued and signed by both the instructor and the applicant.  Also, participants will be provided information on the proper and safe use of the Hilti Diamond Core Drill. Hands-on training will be provided for the use of these tools.

Hoisting and Rigging

This course is designed for Construction Craft Laborers who need the necessary training to become a qualified rigger and a qualified signal person as required under OSHA’s new Crane and Derrick Standard. Participants will learn to signal crane hoists, assess load safety, and inspect rigging. Workers must attend the entire course, attain an 80% or better on the written assessment, and correctly perform all steps of practical assessments to obtain the OSHA 1926.1428 compliant signal person certificate and LIUNA’s qualified rigger certificate. Topics covered are: Hoisting, Rigging and Crane Safety, Basic Math for Hoisting and Rigging, Rigging Hardware and Slings, and Signaling.

Hydro-Mobile Scaffold

A Hydro- Mobile Scaffold is a tower type of scaffolding with a working platform that rises and lowers with the use of a gas motor. This course is designed to educate Construction Craft Laborers on the erection, dismantling, maintenance, and safe operating procedures of a hydro-mobile scaffold. Other topics include: OSHA Regulations Standard for scaffolds, 29 CFR 1926 subpart L.

It will increase student understanding of the American economic system and the important issues we all face as workers today. At the end of the class the student should have a working knowledge of the importance of labor in society. A guiding theme of this class is how workers have earned a voice in the workplace and increased their share of the economic pie.

Laser Safety (N.Y.Certification)

Section 482 of the General Business Law requires persons who operate a mobile laser to hold a certificate of competence issued by the Commissioner of Labor with two exceptions: 1. Professional Engineers and land surveyors licensed to practice in the State of New York.   2. Operators of mobile lasers used exclusively in research and development.  All lasers used in the construction industry at present are considered low intensity lasers.  Lasers for use in the construction industry normally will be classified as a “mobile laser”.  Upon completion of this course, individuals will be issued a Class A certificate of competency which entitles them to operate any low-intensity mobile laser in the State of New York.

Line and Grade

The Line and Grade program focuses on the skills, knowledge, and aptitude necessary to operate a variety of surveying instruments and record information for maintaining elevation and alignment control points on heavy and civil construction projects. Specific topics covered in this program include: Construction Referencing Systems, Construction Layout Instruments, Construction Layout Tools and Techniques, Layout Hand Signals and Field Books, Math for Line and Grade, Measuring Techniques and Elevation Control. Also included in this course are curb, gutter, sidewalk layout, and catch basin setting.

Mason Tending

The Mason Tending program provides instruction on the mason tenders duties, proper job task performance, and details health and safety issues associated with mason tending. Participants use mathematical and scientific concepts to achieve an understanding of working with masonry units, mortars, and admixtures. In addition, the fundamentals of cutting and cleaning masonry, tending plasterers, and operating a rough terrain forklift are also covered. The program emphasizes the need for executing each job task safely and correctly.

MSA Air Monitoring & Instrumentation

The goal / objective of this course is to achieve and enhance the use, effectiveness, application, safety, of MSA (Mine Safety Appliances) portable gas detection products. The participant, at the end of the course, will be able to:  Recognize and respond to an alarm condition on the instrument and help to determine the course of action necessary to correct / mitigate the alarm hazard. The participant will learn how to properly operate and calibrate the instrument, change / replace exhausted sensing elements and perform minor repairs / diagnostics.

OSHA Construction Safety and Health

The 10 or 30-hour OSHA Construction Safety and Health course provides trainees with information on the contents of the OSHA 1926 Code of Federal Regulation standards to fulfill OSHA’s training requirements. The course is presented by instructors who have completed the OSHA 500 training recognized by the OSHA Training Institute. Some of the topics offered are optional: others are mandatory. Trainees learn about the standards that should be adhered to on construction sites and the issues in creating a safe and healthy work environment.




Pipe Fusion / NEGA / O&R / Operator Qualification / Qualification

This qualification program is intended for people who have been previously trained to familiarize the individual with the necessary equipment, steps and procedures for the proper handling and joining of polyethylene pipe in accordance with governing regulations. A written test has been developed to ensure an understanding of plastic joining procedures and techniques. The passing score is 80% for each written test section. Hands-on tests for butt, saddle, electro-fusion and mechanical coupling techniques will be administered.

All unusual situations require you to let someone know, such as; Unintentional ignition, Unintentionally exposed facilities, Erosion, Over pressure, Under/No pressure, and properties of gas.

Task 71

  • Operator Excavation in Vicinity of Pipeline

Critical elements/skill set are; Knowledge of one-call system, Recognize location of gas pipeline facility, and knowledge of excavation and backfilling requirements.

Pipe Laying

The Pipe Laying program prepares Construction Craft Laborers to safely install pipe systems (sewer, storm and water) by introducing participants to the tools, equipment, and techniques typically used in pipe laying. Special attention is paid to the proper work practices as well as protective measures to be followed to install a variety of piping systems safely.                                                                                                                                        - 40 Hours

Pipeline Safety

The Pipeline program instructs Construction Craft Laborers on the safe practices and procedures during pipeline construction projects. All phases of pipeline construction are covered including the front-end work, pipe handling, pipe coating, and back-end work.

Plasma Arc Cutting

The Plasma Arc Cuttting course provides the trainee with the information necessary to operate plasma arc torches, which use extremely high temperatures. The trainee learns how to protect the operator, other workers, property, and equipment from the heat, sparks, and molten metal associated with plasma arc cutting.

Rotating Laser/Pipe Laser Training

Upon completion of this class, trainees will be able to read a survey rod, set up an auto level, read a survey rod with a level, set up a rotating laser and take elevations, transfer elevations to a benchmark, set up and align a grade/dual grade laser.                                              - 6 Hours

Scaffold User

The Scaffold User course fulfills all OSHA scaffold training requirements for 29 CFR 1926.454. The comprehensive course includes use of a specialized pre-built scaffold system designed for inspection, participant discussion, and interactive exercises.                                 -8 Hours

Scaffold Builder

The Scaffold Builder course builds on the Scaffold User course, but adds an in-depth look at the scaffold systems that are available. The course fulfills all OSHA scaffold training requirements for 29 CFR 1926.454. The comprehensive course includes the set-up, the building of inside and outside corners, straight runs and application of outriggers for each type of scaffold being used.

Sexual Harassment

In this course students will learn about what Sexual Harassment is.  Topics that will be covered are: What is discrimination? What is sexual harassment? The two forms of sexual harassment: 1) Quid Pro Quo 2) Hostile Work Environment, also covered are the effects of sexual harassment, How to create a sexual harassment free work environment and the Statute of Limitations. Students will also review case studies and act out with some role playing.                                                                                                                    -   3 Hours

Shop Steward Training

The Shop Steward course provides participants with the tools and techniques needed to prepare them for the role of Steward at the work site. Participants learn what a steward does, the knowledge and information required to do the stewards job, and common problems and situations that the steward may have to address, including job site grievances, health and safety issues, and substance abuse and drug testing. Topics covered in this class are: Role of the Steward, Importance of Unions, Personal Qualities, Problem solving and Communication skills, Grievance handling, Jurisdictional disputes, Safety and Health, and Ethics and Labor Law.

Traffic Control (Flagger Safety)

The flagger safety course addresses the most common hazards encountered by traffic flaggers in highway work zones. It teaches participants how to perform job tasks safely and correctly. Topics covered are equipment and clothing, communication and signals, and procedures and rules.

Traffic Control Supervisor

The Traffic Control Supervisor course prepares participants to oversee traffic control technicians, flaggers, workers, and others on a highway work zone construction project. Topics covered are: responsibilities of the traffic control supervisor, developing internal traffic control plans, temporary traffic control, channeling devices, understanding the manual on uniform traffic control devices (MUTCD), and installation and removal of traffic control devices.

  • Pre-requisite – Work Zone Safety – must score 80% on each section.
  • If you have flagger/traffic control – only 16 hours needed, if you scored 80% or better on tests and you must prove 1500 hours in work experience.







Asbestos Abatement Worker

The Asbestos Abatement Worker program prepares laborers to work safely and productively on asbestos abatement projects. The program is designed to exceed Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) training requirements under 29 CFR Part 1926.1101, 40 CFR Part 763 respectively and New York State Code Rule 56. Participants receive extensive instruction and hands-on training on work area preparation, decontamination facility construction and use, abatement techniques, and clean-up procedures. Special emphasis is placed on following proper procedures and developing safe work habits. This NYS certificate must be refreshed annually and due to scheduling during the summer, it is recommended that individuals take the refresher early.

Asbestos Abatement Worker Refresher

The Asbestos Abatement Worker Refresher program reviews critical topics associated with asbestos abatement activities. Up to date information regarding new regulations, equipment, work practices and procedures, and other related information is detailed.

Bloodborne Pathogens

The Federal Bloodborne Pathogen standard was published in 1991. It was designed to reduce and minimize the potential for occupational exposure to the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, or commonly referred to HIV, the Hepatitus B Virus (HBV) and other human bloodborne pathogens. The course will inform you about precautions you must take to eliminate the risk of infectious diseases that can be contracted through exposure and the proper methods of handling potential contaminants.

Hazardous Waste Worker                                                                                                                                                                                                 The Hazardous Waste Worker program prepares Construction Craft Laborers to work safely and productively on hazardous waste remediation projects. The program meets all Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) training requirements under 29 CFR Part 1910.120 - Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response. Training is mandatory for all workers conducting hazardous waste remediation activities on all Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) National Priorities List (NPL) hazardous waste sites as well as all state, local, county, city, public and private hazardous waste sites. This course doubles OSHA’s 40-hour minimum training requirements due to extensive hands-on exercises and activities, classroom discussions, and demonstrations. Upon successful completion of this class, the certification has to be renewed annually. If not refreshed  by the 15thmonth from the initial course completion date, the certificate will no longer be valid and the class would have to be taken again.

Hazardous Waste Worker Refresher

The Hazardous Waste Worker Refresher course meets the requirements of OSHA’s 29 CFR 1910.120, which requires Construction Craft Laborers certified through the Hazardous Waste Worker, Operations, and Limited Access courses to receive annual refresher training. This course reviews information provided in the 80-hour course. In addition, new regulations, technologies, and advancements are covered. During this presentation, skilled hazardous waste workers have an opportunity to discuss their work experiences.

Hazardous Waste Supervisor Refresher

The Hazardous Waste Supervisor Refresher program recertifies Construction Craft Laborers to conduct remediation activities on hazardous waste projects. Required annually, the program meets all Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) training requirements under 29 CFR 1910.120 for management personnel. Participants receive instruction regarding new or revised regulations, remediation technologies, and advancement in remediation processes.

EPA Lead Abatement Worker

Designed for those who perform lead hazard control activities in residential single family and multiple unit properties, including elevated blood level (EBL), health department ordered projects, USHUD grant programs, public and Indian housing abatement programs and military abatement projects. The course ends with the nationwide approved certification. The variety of topics include: health effects of lead poisoning and sources of lead exposure, testing for lead based paint, worker protection, abatement, clean-up, clearance testing, disposal of abatement debris, regulations, guidelines and recourses for lead testing and abatement, risk management.

EPA Lead Renovator

Common renovation activities like sanding, cutting, and demolition can create hazardous lead dust and chips by disturbing lead-based paint, which can be harmful to adults and children. To protect against this risk, EPA issued a rule requiring the use of lead-safe practices and other actions aimed at preventing lead poisoning. Under the rule, contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-bases paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 must be certified and must follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. EPA requires that firms performing renovation, repair, and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in pre-1978 homes, child care facilities and schools be certified by EPA and that they use certified renovators who are trained by EPA-approved training providers to follow lead-safe work practices.

Microbial Remediation

The Microbial Remediation program instructs Construction Craft Laborers on the health hazards, personal protective equipment requirements, and remediation processes and techniques associated with the removal of mold as well as other microbial contamination. Topics covered are:  Indoor Air Pollution and Sick Building Syndrome, PPE for Microbial Remediation and Anthrax, Work Area Preparation and Remediation Techniques and Decontamination for Microbial Remediation.

PCB Awareness Training

This course is a basic awareness training course for Construction Craft Laborers who may come into contact with PCB’s in the course of their duties. This course will provide students with an overview of applicable Federal and State regulations and policies regarding PCB management. Overall objective is to provide students information needed to ensure their activities do not put themselves at risk when managing PCB’s and PCB containing equipment. Topics covered are: PCB’s and its uses, PCB’s in caulking, Hazards of PCB’s, Regulations, Methods for Removal and Disposal, and Personal Protective Equipment.

Respiratory Protection

The Respiratory Protection course instructs trainees in the correct use of the respirators when there may be hazardous substances present. They will learn exposure guides, the different kinds of respirators and their proper use, and respirator requirements. Topics covered are: Hazard Recognition and Health Effects, Respirators, Respirator Program Requirements, Standard Operating Procedures, Regulations and Fit Testing.

Weatherization Training

The Weatherization Technician / Installer training program prepares workers to make homes energy efficient by minimizing energy loss. The program addresses safety issues, provides an understanding of the basic tools and techniques of the trade, and trains workers in weatherization techniques. Other topics covered are: Building Science, Sealing the building envelope, Insulating and sealing ductwork, and installing insulation.                -     40-200 hours of training (depends on construction skills)


Energy Efficiency


LIUNA Training gives workers the skills they need to capitalize on this fast-growing industry.   Our Energy Efficiency training includes certification programs in Weatherization Installer/Technician, Weatherization Supervisor, and Energy Auditor.  For those entering the program with no construction experience, we provide general construction and safety courses.


Technician/Installers comprise the majority of the workforce needed to make homes efficient.  These students learn building science, sealing the building envelope, insulating and sealing ductwork, and installing insulation.

Building on those skills

Supervisor Training targets individuals with the experience needed to supervise a weatherization crew.  In this course, workers learn to inspect and monitor the job site, conduct/interpret diagnostic testing, and conduct/interpret efficiency tests for all fossil fuel burning appliances.

Energy Auditor training enables individuals with Supervisor level training to determine the energy efficiency needs of a structure and the best methods to attain it.   These students learn how to select and use diagnostic equipment.

Our Residential Construction Program covers skills needed for home construction and renovation work.  Training includes both classroom and job-site activities.  Students learn the many facets of  the residential construction process.  The program starts with an introduction to residential construction focusing on hand and power tools, performing basic carpentry, and the importance of building materials, plans, specifications, and codes.  Later in the program, students get actively involved learning roofing, flooring and wall framing, installing windows, doors, drywall and insulation, roofing and exterior wall finishing and landscaping.  The LIUNA Training Residential Construction Program also introduces materials and work practices which conserve and protect resources and which make the home more environmentally friendly.     – 40 Hours



Green Construction


The Green Construction course focuses on the major factors that play into a green construction project including conservation of natural resources, reduction of carbon emissions, water resource use and conservation, reduction of soil, water and air pollution, and indoor air quality.  Participants learn how these emerging issues influence their work and the potential future impact of growth in renewable energy, sustainable buildings, and green construction.
